In memory of Charles Kennedy
Last Saturday the Club was very pleased to welcome Mrs Dempsey and her family to Antermony Loch. Mrs Dempsey, wife of Councilor John Dempsey, is the sister of the late Councilor Charles Kennedy.

Charles, with the council he then led, was instrumental in the Council buying the loch from a water board and continuing the lease, which the Club had had since 1943. Following this, Charles and the council have been staunch supporters of the Club.

The Councils Criminal Justice Unit approached the Club last year, saying that grants were available from the ‘Proceeds of Crime Fund’ and asking if we had a suitable plans. This enabled the Club to go ahead with the ‘wheelyboat project, which has long been one of our objectives, as it would make the Club's fishing available to wheelchair users and those of us, not so nimble on our feet.

With the grant we bought a wheelyboat from the Wheelyboat Trust and an outboard motor. Under the direction of Jim Mundell, the Community Service teams built the necessary paths, ramps and landscaping. In this we were supported by many generous donations of building materials.

We needed a name for the boat and in view of Charles’ long-term support, there was only one name in the frame. So on Saturday, Mrs Dempsey came to Antermony, where she and Charles used to picnic as children, to name our new wheelyboat - ‘Charles Kennedy’.

Following the naming, we had tea and cakes and our guests were treated to a trip round the loch in the wheelyboat. We hope they come back regularly to enjoy the loch.
